Conservationists are concerned that current harvest rates and practices may be pushing big-leafed mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla) in the same direction as Caribbean mahogany (Swietenia mahagoni), which was once heavily traded but is now endangered and commercially exhausted because of past over-harvest.
